I have been asked to keep it simple. A video, maybe a book and a project. I also created "Explore More" that is optional but students and families can explore more.
This week for 2nd grade I did the lesson on Cave Art of Lascaux. I found a virtual tour into Lascaux 2. I made google slides with information on the boys and dog that found the cave. I included two books from You Tube that related to it. The project was to crumble a paper and then color it with a brown crayon like the cave and I asked the artists to draw animals. They upload them and I comment on all (560) students.
The benefits is I seem to be able to share more because there's no interruptions; fire drills, assemblies, behavior issues. It also takes more time to do all this but it is so fun to share so much. Good news once their made I am making a library. I also hear the district may have us do this during snow days. I hope we don't have to make up the snow day then.
I am tracking student participation with forms that I created from class lists and checking off work as it comes in. It is time consuming but it is giving me a clear picture of which students are participating. My K-3 students are producing much more than my 4-6 grade students.
